Update: I see new growth on the tips of where I cut it.
My question is how does a new stem grow now where the stem is old and from the original plant ?

So as I see some new leaves and old big leaves starting to yellow out new leaves around the stems, is there anything I should be doing to promote blooms in the coming weeks or is this being overly optimistic ?

thanks
:)

OK here's an update on my hibiscus after I pruned it in June...

It has grown back pretty full, but when can I expect any blooms ?!?

I agree that taking about a third out is about right. You kind of need to decide what shape you want your plant to become. If you want to maintain the single stem at the base, be sure to prune the suckers that will start growing after a good pruning.

Hibiscus will grow quickly this time of year. Examine the growing tips carefully before pruning to see if they are about to produce a flower; if so, there will be a little bulging shoot nestled between the tiny new leaves. If I prune my plant too late in the spring it takes at least a month before it starts flowering again.

Thank you very much... I just wanted to make sure .
I cut it more than half down as blooms are all gone.
