Determining Quantities and Pricing for Selling Plants

Postby packrat79 » May 06, 2008 1:48 pm

When I started my seedling project, I planted most seeds with very tight spacing - up to 18 seeds per 5x7" plastic tray, for example. Now it's time to start thinning them out, and I want to make sure that when I try to sell plants later this spring, I offer the right quantities of plants per container. Here are some figures I've already decided on:

4 plants per 4" square tray: (single) Petunias, Marigolds, Lobelia (4 clumps), Asters

1 plant (or two runts) per 2" tray: Impatiens, Heliotrope, Bergamot, Begonias, Danish Flag Poppies

6 plants per 5x7" tray: Marigold mixture, Alyssum (6 clumps)

The ones I haven't decided on are: Double Petunias (Rose, Purple), and some hard-to-find Petunias (white-edged, Blue or Red Star, etc.). These I was considering selling either one or two per tray.
Thanks for any advice.
