Hey, Tante, call me dumb as a post, but aren't you Old Grey Moose? LOL My fave fencing is zigzag, too, and have six feet of it to support the cukes. Well, it's a facsimile zigzag makeshift and one shouldn't perch one's butt on it.

What do you think of using these Oz-posts for your deck posts? From what Denise reports, they sure sound tenacious. Or are you considering the sonar tube route or a floating deck? As you're not a petit female or nerdy guy, to laffingly paraphrase Lee, bet you could sledge hammer them in, no sweat. I mean glow. (Thinking of old saw that horses sweat, gentlemen perspire and ladies glow, natch.)

Certainly easier and cheaper than sonotube and ceement....But then when it comes to deck building there are (of course) building codes involved there too, so I will reserve judgement until after I check that stuff out...which, of course, will be after my ship comes in....

This type of post is easy to install. As mentioned the staility will depend on the type of soil.
Another thing to consider is the effect of frost in the spring. Unless a post is deeper than the frost line, it will get pushed up. THis might not be a problem, since it probably would be easy to pound it back down again.

Interestinger, Jewel. (Are you a poster from the "past"? laffs) Rethinking deck building project, Paul. Was my belief that frost had a lot to do with plunking in posts. Don't think sledgehammering Oz-posts whenever they erupt would work after all.

Talking my backburner project, not anyone else's.
