Making a bird bath

Postby Eeyore » Jul 21, 2008 5:55 pm

I've used the large saucer from a clay pot as a birdbath but it dries out very quickly. I want to paint the inside but I don't know what type of paint I should be using. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks :D

Lyn,

With the clay pots, I think I recall reading that you should soak it to prevent it from drying off. Immerse it totally for a number of hours/overnight and see what happens.

I bought some indoor, outdoor Rustoleum paint today so I'll see how it works out.

Oooh, good point Lulu, I will check the label.

Daisy - clearcoat is a good idea. Thanks!

how did it turn out?
i once painted the inside of such a dish with a small amount of cement...worked great....was rough enough for the birds and the discoloration with time gave it a lot of character...i should make another one...

patriciaspots.com/howtopaintapot.htm

Eeyore found this website and it tell you how and what type of paint to use on Terra Cotta pots. I did this years ago and made a birdbath and he paint that i used was Patio Paint.

Worked out great for me and everyone say's what kind of pots are those.

I've done it with the spray paint and it is a beautiful blue. However I might get some of that textured spary stuff so the birdies have something to hang on to.
