Clivia(Kaffiir Lily)
I have brought up this lovely houseplant before. My two mature Clivias haven't bloomed in 4 years. I am wondering if I should change the dirt? I know the roots like to be croweded. What would be the best type of soil mix to use. I would like to get them transplanted this week. I also have 7 offspring from seeds that are 3 years old in need of better growing medium. Any suggestions out there?

Not sure where you have your Clivia but they do like some sun - just not midday sun. They also like to "rest" over winter in a dark cool place like a basement. Maybe this helps.

sorry ................. forgot to mention that i doubt it's the type of soil that's the problem. Clivias are hardy plants that need little care and grow in the poorest of soils.

Hi Millo. Mine have always been in a Southeast window, no direct sun, and use to bloom in this location. I must give them a rest this Winter as you suggested in the coolness and darkness of the basement. I am wondering if I should repot them with better soil for this tropical species? Any other suggestions out there?

I have a clivia. It has been in the same pot for 2 years.
I almost neglect it and it blooms for me twice a year.

Sunkeeper, do you give it cool, drier, and darker conditions during the Winter Months?

Hi Linda, Right now it is in a small pot they love to be root bound.
I do keep the soil on the dry site. I do keep it in low light during the winter months. I basically ignore it and it does bloom.

I have been thinking of transplanting mine in a pot size a little bit bigger, not much. It does bloom twice a year for me.
