one perennial going strong
I can hardly believe it. We still have one perennial going strong - an aster, even thought the temperatures have been as cold as -9 C. This was taken Remembrance Day in Calgary.

They are tough and gorgeous.

What a pretty colour. Not much colour left in these parts.

WOW! I had fall asters for a few years and they never did make it to bloom. What is the name of that variety punman? I could certainly use something that blooms that late in the fall.

Oh, that is beautiful, punman. I lived in Calgary for 24 years and nearly every year my Michaelmas Daisies bloomed into November. They would often have snow on them and just keep on blooming. That is a Michaelmas Daisy, right?

I bought it two years ago as ASTER WOODS PINK although the color is more purple. It did not flower in '06 but did the last two years.
I don't know if that mean Michaelmas or not. Someone told me New York but I am not up on my Asters.

We just visited a park with a butterfly garden today. The only plants that had not succumbed to the cold were the asters. We even saw a bee at the blooms. Tough plants, to be sure.
