I agree with Joan, great colour! It must be at least 60 years old!

I love that song. Great dance tune.
"Tie a yellow ribbon around the ol' Oak Tree"
I planted a red oak by seed 10 years ago and it must be 30 ft high. I got it from BIL has so many
Red oak is the fastest growing of all oaks he said

Re: The mighty Oak
There are three oaks classified as red oaks native to Canada; Red, Black & Pin. The other six native oaks are White oaks.

Re: The mighty Oak
First of all, that is one fine, beautiful, oak! I too would be interested in knowing how old it is.
It brings back some memories of a Canadian show I watched many many years ago. I also read the book. It was called 'The White Oaks of Jalna'. I just adored that show. I saw it before I came to Canada, and somehow it made me think that all Canadians lived that way!
Obviously NOT!

Re: The mighty Oak
Hey Ron:
Is the Bur Oak native ? A friend has them on his farm on the east side of Lake Winnipeg. Has a lively grain. Much of it looks like walnut & machines much like walnut. Those that he has been harvesting are about 3ft. dia. at the base so they hafta been there quite some time. I would guess better than 60 years.

Yes Lee, it is native to southern ON & southern Manitoba. It is classified as a white oak & is an tree of choice for town planers because it transplants readily & is little affected by air pollution. Ref. Native Trees of Canada.

I'm glad you guys like our Oak,but Earwig,MareE,Inge,Laura,Ron,Sheikea,Joan,Lyn,BF,BBQ,& Lee.
You will be surprise to know that the tree is only about 26/27 years old.And you thought it was a senior
citizen. It came from the GRCA when our DD worked there,so all I know is a Red Oak.
