Beware all those who have acquired Dell pc just lately, I'm talking about within 2 years ago. Now don't get me wrong, its not Dell pc I'm mad about at all, its the load of "Goodies" like McAfee antivirus which was, "One hell of a good deal", according to the sales person.
Everything was working fine for a start, and I was happy with the deal, but then without warning,McAfee time was up and the virus updates just stopped, needless to say I picked up Spyware 2009 virus, I think that was what it is called,including a few names I found for it.
Anyway I am back on track again, $175.00 out of pocket for computer tech: and a lot of frustration.

Derek, I have been using AVG anti virus since we got the new computer Sept. 07. It is a free download & gets regular updates for free as well. So far no infections but it did catch some trying.

McAfee alerts me well in advance every year when my subscription is up. But I bought it directly from McAfee, not as part of a package.

I also use the AVG free edition & have done so for at least 2 years on my old computer & on the present one. It updates free every morning. Have never had a problem.

My computer tech; put me onto Avast Antivirus after all the fuss, sez he use it to protect his business Pc, and never had a bit of trouble. Its a free one and the updates are rolling in.

Give it a shot of fuel stabalizer. That stuff is good for snowblower virus. LOL.

I have a new Dell PC - but no free anti-virus came with it .. Have Norton and never had a problem.

Both McAfee and Norton work well but are resource hogs. They take up way too much space on yr machine for their function. On the MSN computer help forum the three most highly recommended antivirus programs are AVG, Avira and Kaspersky. The first two are free downloads.
