Nuthatch BB

I am sure this is a white breasted nuthatch. His belly is so white and his head is sort of flat like the red one. They look the same shape

so darn hard to get a decent pic as he takes off when I take a pic and I can't get close enough

I see him sitting in the tree next to the deck and feeder. I am sure it is. Hi belly is so white and the head is a grey blue color

First time I have seen one

Don''t know if you can tell by this at all or by his flight

The little bird on the feeder in the first one is more likely a chickadee, although they do look quite similar with their black heads, white bellies and soft gray backs.

But note the length of the tail feathers. The chickadee has a much longer tail than the stubby tail of the nuthatch.

But that doesn't mean you didn't see one before as they are in your area. Keep that cammie handy!

Yep, BB i do have the white breasted nuthatch

Darn, every time I went to take a pic he flew off so I didn't know what I caught in the picture

But I see him in the maple tree next to the feeder. But he flies off so fast.

A nervous bird? or flash scaring him. Tried without the flash. Now when he sees me in thw window when he comes to the feeder it takes off again

The red ones is used to me now. They don't fly away when getting their portrait taken, lol,lol

The second photo you posted, the one with the wings out, could be a nuthatch. I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

I'm sure he'll get used to you and no, I wouldn't use the flash on him. Try to get the sun behind you if you can.

Another hint, they often will go to the feeder than go to the same spot on a tree to eat..back and forth. So be ready at either the feeder of the tree and you'll get lucky sooner or later!

Yes he does got to the tree, same branch every time

But poor little boodies, wind is so strong it is blowing them right off the feeder

Monday nite it was minus 18 and today plus 15 and all that snow has melted

I know that I've confused the dee dee's for a nuthatch. Especially when all I get is a quick glance and they are on the wing!

I have so many dee dees all year but when this one flew to the feeder I could tell he was very different especially in shape with the head.

He has been back a few times sinc this am but he takes off when I try for a pic. Think he sees me and no other way to take a pic but through the window

Yep a white breased nuthatch for sure

I am thinking there must be another around somewhere.
