Different plants/ Black Pearls
I am attractted to plants that are quite different
This is called Black Pearl
I have no room on the B's
This is another that is fussy to take care of inside in winter.
The next pic is a close up of the pearls that are seed
pods

The plant produces a little pink flower. The leaves are a black/purplish pink color
I love this plant but it does dry out fast. I bought it at Supertore

Re: Different plants/ Black Pearls
Hi BF:
Is that the Black Pearl pepper plant?
I noticed there are seeds for it listed at Lindenberg Seeds.

Re: Different plants/ Black Pearls
No Sharon
It does not grow peppers if that is what you mean.
It just puts out the litle pink flowers and very round shinny black seed pods that look like black pearls. Hense it;s name.
Just an ornamental plant that is all.
I should have kept some pods for seeds. I did open a pod and there are many seeds inside
If I can keep the plant from drying out and it lives lol,lol ,I will keep the pods this year for seeds

Hiya BF
Great plant huh. It has won many awards last year and is sure to become a favorite. Sharon is correct, it is an annual pepper (capsicum annuum), but used only as an ornamental.

Re: Different plants/ Black Pearls
The little black berries (pearls) that form on the plant are in fact peppers. When these ornamental peppers fully mature, they turn from black to red. The plant itself was developed in 2006 (I think) and won the AAS that year.

I consider them an edible ornamental since the peppers could be used in cooking as a spice. They are very hot. I was thinking of using one or two in a curry paste.
I just started watering mine again yesterday. I've kept it on the dry side throughout the winter but I decided it was time for spring.

I have used them in my curry paste (east indian) and in my sambal ulek (indonesian hot chili paste) and they add a certain tanginess to it. The Indonesian sambal is both added to the oil when cooking meat, and is also used as a condiment when "dotting" the rice to add flavour before adding your cooked meats to it
