Soil vs Promix

Postby jcool » May 23, 2009 12:09 am

Gardening rookie here.

Last summer I grew several herbs on my balcony in Garden Brand all-purpose potting soil, and the plants were healthy throughout the summer and grew (what seemed) quite rapidly.

This summer I have planted several herbs in a Pro Mix variant, and one herb in my remaining Garden Brand soil from last year. The plants in the Pro Mix soil seem healthy but don't seem to be growing very much. The herb in the Garden Brand soil looks extremely healthy and is growing very rapidly.

Does anyone have any positive/negative experiences with the Pro Mix brand or Garden Brand soil? I looked at the bags and the soil composition seems similar from what I can tell. Should I find another bag of the Garden Brand soil and replant the herbs? Is it too early in the season to tell?

Any advice appreciated! :D

Did you check to see whether fertilizer is an ingrediant in one and not the other.
There are a great many types of Promix, some have fertilizer....others don't
