Potatoes in Bags

I bought some of those nifty Potato-growing bags from Veseys and planted them. However, I didn't get back to add more dirt to them until the plants were peeking over the rim of them. ( about 2.5ft ) Yesterday I noticed that the plants have buds on them already.
Should I trim those buds / stems off to promote potato growth, or is this even a problem?
