Rail fencing
Does anyone know where I can find some split rail fencing - the weathered rustic type? I am in the Montreal area but am willing to go afar for this.

Re: Rail fencing
Hi,
Congratulations on your choice of fencing! I thought I was the only one liking old cedar rail fencing!A few years ago, I managed to get some pieces from a farm in Ontario close to Quebec border so just west of Montreal. Any farm has that old stuff and many farmers want to get rid of it. I now live in Nova Scotia and I have brought my old pieces od cedar all the way from Ontario. You can also find those fences outside Quebec city along highway 20 but those farmers are not willing to dispose of their fences. Hope this is of some help.

Are you kidding, Remi?????
If you''ve been checking out the soup you will notice that there are more than a few of us with split rail fences in their gardens.
Betty, Look for notices in newspapers, esp smaller town ones. A lot of farmers who replace their split rails will have more than enough for you. You can also try buy and sell sites like Kijiji, or evn sites like Freecycle (basically an online swap meet....it's all free) You can always put your own notice in..."Looking For:" and may be surprised with the response....esp if you say you are willing to pick up!!!!
Search, search!!! Because there is absolutely no way you should pay a retail price from a landscaping company!!!!!
Klooking for 5 rails herself....

You are RIGHT Kelly! Kijiji is a good spot to shop around. I was under the impression that she had already gone that route!!!!

Yes, I have gone the Kijiji route although have not tried the "wanted". "Freecycle" is a new one for me (thanks). Might have to go for a drive in the country and see if I can find a farmer willing to part with the fencing.
Thanks all!

Consider driftwood, logging/slash, sites in the woods.

Hi Betty,
I am in Montreal and I also have a split rail fence. I just googled "Perche de Cedre" and got some ads on Kijiji from Sherbrooke area. I also have seen some on the highway in Drummondville at the antique dealers there. Les Serres Vaudreuil also has some smaller ones that aren't that pricey. About $1/foot
Happy hunting! Clyde

hi Clyde,
Well, I wish I lived closer to "Les Serres Vaudreuil"!! At $1 a foot, it's a real deal!!No dealing with the farmers who sometimes are a bit hesitant at getting rid of theirold fences.

OMG! *shocked*
If I could get a dollar a foot for cedar rails I'd be tearing down my fences and selling them! *wink*
