Brown spots on Brussell Sprouts

So I have these brown spots all over my brussell sprouts leaves? I thought maybe it was because it was so dry? Anyone familiar with this? I haven't grown them before so I'm a little unfamiliar with them.

Those are lambs quarters/ pigweed/ goosefoot/ amaranth (all common names for the same weed) in your picture.
It is a delicious spring green that often shows up in new gardens and areas the soil has been disturbed.
The spots on the leaves look like insect damage to me .
Brussels Sprouts appear the same as cabbage , broccoli and related brassicas in seedlings and early growth.

Awesome...so I've been weeding weeds?!!!!! Christ....i planted seeds there and had no idea...guessing they didn't' come up? So much for brussel Sprouts.

Yeah it's too late to plant from seed. To plant from seed you need like a 3.5 month head start before planting time.

Or I guess you could always buy some already big enough...

Well.....nice try but now you can live up to your screen name and go butcher some weeds.

Don't weed them and toss them if you like spinach .. Young lambs quarters ( nicest name for them) make a great green like spinach.. Just clean them , trim off root and steam or boil just to wilted .. You can serve with a squeeze of lemon , vinegar , bit of butter or plain.... just as you would spinach or a similar green. Those "weeds" are great eating .

i laughed for a bit then i felt bad but then i laughed a little bit more. this is totally something i could have seen myself doing.

i vote you buy some transplants to save the season too, if you're really wanting to grow your own "sprussel brouts"

You need a fairly long season for Brussels sprouts. I only grew them once. I got tiny little grape-sized sprouts full of worm damage. I buy sprouts in the store now - same goes for broccoli.

If you want to grow them now, buy some transplants. Be prepared for the cabbage worms. The sprouts taste better after a frost.

I am not a fan of eating weeds in my garden, I bet Dave thinks portulaca is edible too...
