First blooms in my garden
Just before the rain, I ran out and took some quick photos. We were under a severe thunderstorm watch and so I wanted to take pics before the damage. Luckily, all we got was rain!
The first photo is a Bearded Iris, the second photo, I don't have the name of this lovely perennial.

Your particular iris is one of the very few I can get to grow in my yard. It was given to me. All my expensive, purchased ones have died.
Your second plant is perennial bachelor's button aka Centaurea montana. I got rid of mine, or tried to anyway, it keeps popping up even though I dig them out when I see them - does that give you a clue to its invasive habit? Keep an eye on it.

Your iris, which is beautiful, reminds me very much of the irises I grew up with. I remember my father 'grew' a patch in a corner of our garden in England. The patch seemed to get bigger every year. We called them 'Flags' then - I wonder where that name came from. Even though the bloom is short-lived my mother would pick a few each day to put in a vase.
I don't remember ever seeing an iris any other colour!
