Re: I don't like my shape!
Up near the house...below the window...there is a Spirea at the walkway.....I would get rid of that area of graden and create a litlle round patio in front of the window (you can always leave room for garden behind...and the garden in front...
Big enough for say 2 chairs or a bistro set......
So essentially if you came out of the house...you can follow the path or go right to a patio....

What would you use to create the patio? Stone or wood? Thanks so much!

I agree with K about the location. I think I'd stick with stone for the patio and put it at ground level. However if you want to rise it then go with wood. I also agree that it should be round. You can get some very nice cobblestone packages that are designed in a circle.

I agree: Circle, stone, bistro set. Plus a lovely container of bright annuals and a burgundy shrub somewhere close! Have fun, and let us know what you decide, and post pics please.

JDuley, what's your zone? and, how much room do you have to the left of that walkway? At first glance, my eye gets drawn to the climbing greenery on the wall on the right, and I'm thinking, there may be substantial space on the left, and potential to do some magnificent things there to really draw a person in.
