Orca Beans

Anyone grown these? Also known as Yin Yang beans. Black and white, round, with a little dot. These are an heirloom open pollinated bean used for drying. I got 9 of them at the Seedy Saturday back in February, but just planted them 5 days ago, and they are up already - I guess that means my soil is nice and warm finally.

They are supposed to be 90 days to maturity and I hope they will make it through our 85 day frost free season.

I did a search on them .. The pdf I found claims 100 -110 days to maturity..Sounds like they might need some fall protection to mature up there .

Heidi, I haven't grown that particular variety of dry bean, but, the rule of thumb is that when at least 90% of the leaves have fallen and the pods are brown, you can pull the plants and continue drying and curing indoors.
