Should be OK....as long as they don't damage the roots of the remaining part of the tree....that is to say, just have them grind off the stump just below the surface but no deeper......the cedar will not sprout from the stump, so there is no need to grind it out any further than the surface....

perfect thanks, I mean if it does, it does.
but I seems almost separate from the rest..just wanted to make sure that cutting a big part of something off wont kill it lol
I think it will look better cut back, opinions?
seems too big, just want the part the hides the street light

Do be aware that cedars (thuja occidentalis) typically do not recover from areas that have lost foliage, so you might be exposing some brown or naked areas by doing this. I can't tell from the photo how close the limbs are, but it does look fairly open between the limbs. If the inner limbs have green on them you will be ok, but if the inner area when you plan the divide is browned foliage, it will not recover along that edge.
Also be aware that the roots of this tree type are located just below the soil surface, so be very, very careful in your stump grinding plans.

all done, tree guy said it should be ok, he just ground the stump flush with grade and stayed away from the other part of the plant..
also did two stumps in the back yard and took a tree down.

Wow ... that made a big difference.

Hope everything works out okay. You were wise, imo, to take down the huge tree that was dwarfing your pretty little house. I think I would breathe easier during a severe storm/heavy rain.
