Is this a sunflower?

Hi helpful gardeners!

Can anyone tell me if this is a sunflower and, if so, what type? It's in my Mom's garden and it's big! It didn't look like this last year and wasn't even in that spot so she's a bit befuddled lol!!

It's Tithonia rotundifolia... the petals have dropped (or, anomalously, were not produced) on the flower shown, leaving only the ray flowers.

At first glance I’m not convinced it’s a Sunflower but it was.

LOL! Thanks! I'll let my Mom know. While I was on vacation, she sent me a pic of it and it did get more actual flowers, but then all the rain we finally got sort of messed it up - all droopy and such. I'm sure it will be fine... at least we know what it is now...still no clue how it got there though! Ha!
