21 October
My raised beds didn't produce as well as previous years, and I suspect that tree roots have found their way up into them and are taking all the nourishment. I haven't had a chance to dig them over yet, but will have to do it soon, although a rotator cuff tear in my right shoulder is creating a problem!
Anyway, I planted some Nantes carrots rather later than I should and kept my fingers crossed. They did grow, but oh so slowly. I really thought I wouldn't get anything at all. I pulled one up this morning to check and was surprised to find that although small the carrots were really plump and healthy-looking.
These are what I pulled less than an hour ago. They'll be on the supper plate tonight with roast chicken!

Re: 21 October
I might as well piggyback onto this posting I made earlier today.
Those carrots ended up on our supper plate with a roast chicken breast, broccoli, sage & onion stuffing, small red potatoes, and homemade gravy.
The carrots were lovely.
We are gravy babies!
This is not my plate. I have to shed 20+ lbs so am downsizing my portions!

Your carrots and your dinner looks delicious, BBQ. Makes me hungry just looking at it
Want to lose weight? Skip the gravy altogether or if you can't, try to cut back the amount.
