Magic!
Or at least it seems that way!
Last year I brought in a small-sized water lily and over-wintered it under grow lights in the basement. It did very well and actually bloomed.
I thought I would do the same again this year, and yesterday I was rewarded with this beauty!

wIhat a gorgeous water lily!! Love the colour! I had them in my pond when I lived in zone 3 - they actually survived the winters! So - are you just keeping yours inside - permanently? How long does it bloom indoors?
Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration.

I have just a tiny corner pond in the patio, no more than 12" deep in the centre, so trying to keep a water lily alive over the winter would be impossible!
This water lily is one I bought in 2011, overwintered it last year in the basement under grow lights, (in a large bucket of water), and then put it out again in spring 2012. Not only did it bloom last year in the basement but bloomed again during the summer. So, I brought it in again as soon as the weather started getting cooler this year, and I was very happy to see it bloom again after being brought in. The flower lasts for about a week.

Oh I get it! I thought maybe you were experimenting with it indoors. Great idea and neat to hear that it blooms when inside too - you get to enjoy it for longer. Do you put any tiny little goldfish in with your water feature when you have it on your patio? In Thailand we would often see big pots with plants and tiny little fish.
