US Election

Yes, Trish,

I was pleased to see Ms. Warren get elected, and Mr. Akin not! I was looking at the demographics of voting this morning, and it is clear that white, republican men are going to be outnumbered and are finally losing control of your country.

In Canada, I think we have had a greater integration of ethic minorities, at least in the larger, urban centres, but we still have women and aboriginal persons under-represented too.

Mr. Harper is a strong right-wing type, with the rape, pillage and burn method of managing the country. I don't think the man has a heart - kinda like the Grinch! Except he hasn't found Whoville yet, and doesn't realize he can run the country without starving the elderly and children, and ripping off the veterans. It makes me want to cry to see what the right side is willing to do to humans in pursuit of the almighty DOLLAR.

So much for my viewpoint - I see the stock markets didn't like the election result - everything down! Oh well, like all cycles, it will come back up.

Lets hope he puts half the effort into doing what is good for the country as he did to stay in power.

The markets went up on Tuesday because traders thought Romney was going to win - Suprise!! They went down on Wednesday because of Greece, and possibly Obama winning, but mostly due to Greece and worry about the European economy.

And, as you say, "Oh well, like all cycles, it will come back up."

As for oil in the strait and a pipeline, it is probably inevitable given how little countries have done to become less dependent on oil. At least Obama has started the process of wind. We may also be building some hydro dams. And, car gas mileage is required to go up.

Is bitumin I think, that we are afraid of in the strait, and on the land from broken pipelines...bitumin going to China to have the oil extracted(or the other way around, bitumin extracted.) Bitumin sinks to the bottom of the sea, doesn't float on top...no way to clean it up if there's a spill/crash/sinking.

The strait...that passage, is one of the most dangerous in the world. Amazing fierce wind storms. The land is earthquake prone, mountainous, and WILD.

We don't call it Supernatural BC for nothing!

yep, we'll fight.

Much of BC belongs to the First Nations, who never signed their land and rights away.

It'll be political suicide for any government to approve that pipeline to Kitimat.
Yes , it is to carry bitumen and heavy crude . .about the most toxic and difficult to clean up, even on a land based spill. Even light sweet crude and refined oil products would be a disaster if spilled in the straits.. No bloody way should that pipeline be considered at all.

I'm afraid the Republicans are going to have to be dragged kicking and screaming to any social reforms proposed by Obama . There is too much money from the health insurance industry among others being fed into politicians to oppose universal healthcare. The cry of " socialism and communism" still scares too many ill -informed in the midwest and deep south where it seems so many haven't a clue what goes on outside their own community, let alone the rest of the world.
Isn't it strange how the cry for cutting taxes on the rich and industry ( which actually pays very little now on its total income because of loopholes) is touted as a way to prosperity is put out while ignoring the fact that during the boom times of the 50's and 60's tax rates were many times higher than they are now. The more corporate taxes and high income earner taxes have been cut, the more they are taking that money and running offshore to invest rather than invest at home to get a lower tax rate like they had to back then .

Aren't Americans watching telly too? Aren't they seeing what's going on in New York and Jersey? (and Boston, Massachusetts and Connecticut, etc?

Can't they hear their fellow Americans begging for help that is so slow to get there?

Or can they only parrot "keep gummint out of our lives."?

Any politican feeding them this, pushing this, ought to be soundly spanked, in public.

Didya hear Governor Christie (Jersy) saying wryly, he's expecting "locusts and pestilence" next?
