Orchidguy...help!

This is a picture of the new orchid I got...almost finished blooming. There were 5 flowers on this little thing.

No instructions, the guy thought it was a Dendrobium. But internet says they send up a stem...are those fat things stems?

will you recommend a site for instructions/care, pls, if possible?

Heya Liz,
Those do look like stems to me, as they don't really have the familiar shape of a pseudo-bulb. Your orchid does look like a dendrobium (my best guess would be D. nobile hybrid), and if it is, needs a definite rest where water should be gradually reduced when all new growth has matured (usually autumn here)

I don't really know any sites for care of dendrobiums off hand, as the little bit I do know, was mostly from trial and error. I found so many conflicting methods of growth for most plants, that I figured I am going to probably have to find out what works best for me. The one thing I do always try to find out for any plant , is their place of origin, as this can tell you what is needed for their care and maintenance .

If this is a hybrid of d. nobile, it is one of the easiest to maintain and set flower buds of all dendrobiums.

I shall search and search until my eyes cross...and cut back on watering, since it thinks it is autumn (come to think of it, we are having autumnal weather here...smart plant!)

I am fascinated by the fat stalks...as opposed to the skinny long stems on the phals.

Orchid growers must rub their hands together in delight at the thought of fools like me...

I fed all my Orchids yesterday and so pleased again as they are all in rebud mode growth yet again.

So they shall get a fee again In January.

That is great ScotKat, which ones are budding?
The Paphiopedilums, Larger Cattleyas, Phragmipedium, Cymbidium and Phalaenopsis are all budding right now. The majority of the orchid I grow here, starts to bloom right after Christmas

lots of blooms and buds here too..nothing as fancy as Dan's varieties.

As always, your plants are the pictures of health, and nice to see one of the keikis put out a flowering stalk.
The plant isn't wonky, that's the way they grow, and is a beautiful sight when you have a very mature plant with 20 - 40 keikis all with stalks in bloom. It's nice to see them not removed, and IMO, think the oddity in their growth lends to their beauty.
