How do I dispose of old sod?

Hi everyone

I plan to rent a sod cutter this spring and remove a lot of dead turf. My question is how to get rid of the old stuff.

It's full of weeds right now so I don't want to till it back in, and I anticipate there will be a lot of rocks and pebbles dug up as well.

I live in Markham.

Any ideas?

You could always compost it.

Unfortunately you can't dispose of it in yard bags - at least we couldn't in Toronto. If you do not wish to compost it, you might have to take it to the dump.

The problem with composting it is that it's full of weeds and I don't know if that's a good idea.

So I guess that means I have to rent a dumpster?

If Markham has a land fill (dump) I would take the dead sod there.

Composting does kill seeds that are in the soil.
