Need to identify a plant

Postby sammar » May 10, 2013 8:50 pm

We just bought a house and found this in the garden. It is about 18" high with wrinkly leaves. We have been digging around in the gardens clearing weeds and have both broken out in an itchy rash. Not sure if this is the culprit or not.

Thanks Ian. I did a search for Chestnut Tree seedlings and that is definitely what it is. I also found out that they can be a skin irritant.

It's an Aesculus species, not chestnut.

If the tree has sticky buds then it is a Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum)
If the buds are not sticky then it is an Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra)
