How to get rid of suckers?

Postby Vendella01 » Jun 08, 2013 12:45 pm

I have a weeping lilac standard, which is doing great, however, I have all these suckers coming from the soil, which is probably from the shrub the tree was grafted to. I have no idea what the host tree was. Ive read don't cut them down, just bend them, I do but they still keep coming. How do I get rid of these sucker shoots permanently? :D

You will not be able to rid them permanently.....just snip them off at ground level each time they appear......do not try any chemicals like round up or you will kill the tree, since the suckers come from the root stock used to graft the tree.
