An updated edition of 1983's The Armchair Book of Gardening

The Bedside Book of the Garden

By Dr D G Hessayon, Expert Books, 334 pages, hardcover, $21.95

Essentially a repackaging of 1983’s The Armchair Book of the Garden, publishing phenomenon David Hessayon (author of the 21 bestselling ‘Expert’ series of gardening books) has updated the current edition, which is full of interesting tidbits, trivia and some downright useful information.

With articles like “How do you tell the garden tits apart” and “Can hedgehogs be kept as pets?” it’s obvious that this is intended for a British audience, but we like it too. Having already shifted from armchair to bedside, one hesitates to speculate where an eventual third edition might find itself situated.

The best garden book I have read to date is "Gin and Tonic in the Garden" by Janice Wells. It is full of humour and subtle hints about the garden. I could not put it down once I started and would recommend it to anyone to read.
