How to Identify More than 200 Toxic Plants Found in Homes, Gardens, and Open Spaces

The North American Guide to Common Poisonous Plants and Mushrooms by Nancy J. Turner & Patrick von Aderkas, Timber Press, $39.95

Written by two University of Victoria professors, this easy-to-understand volume should be on every gardener's bookshelf. Divided into four sections (mushrooms, wild plants, garden plants and houseplants), the text is supported by great photos.

Readers will learn why it isn't a good idea to eat the honey made from rhododendron nectar, and may think twice before decking their halls with boughs of holly and ivy this year—both are poisonous (but poinsettias aren't).
