Although visitors flock to the botanical gardens year-round, spring is always a popular time of the year, when the sweeping beds are filled with great drifts of daffodils, muscari, alliums, tulips and a mixture of other spring flowering bulbs and early blooming perennials.
Over the years, Brian has planted tens of thousands of species and hybrid crocuses in an extensive section of the lawn. “The Crocus Lawn is a blast of early colour where you least expect it,” he says. “This planting location also seems to confuse our voracious moles and chipmunks—they don’t think to dig in the lawn for bulbs!”
