Is it possible to be obsessed with a flowering tree? I discovered the eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis) on a photo shoot in 2009. It was the first week of May and I was heading to an incredible collection of woodies at Folmer Landscaping, Botanical Gardens & Garden Centre in Walkerton, Ontario. What I wasn’t prepared for was the spectacular redbud that had just come into bloom. When we were putting together this issue, I was happy to see the eastern redbud on the lineup for our Trees We Love column. With its spectacular vibrant colour and fleeting beauty, I know the redbud is a tree I’m enchanted with. I hope you share my feelings about this true harbinger of spring.
