Bluestar (Amsonia)
It’s easy to see why The Perennial Plant Association crowned bluestar (Amsonia hubrichtii) the 2011 perennial of the year. It’s beautiful and low-maintenance. DeLong confesses, “I’ve never moved, divided, pruned or otherwise done anything to my amsonias other than to add compost around them.” As if that isn’t enough, the plant provides long bloom times and golden fall colour.
