Epimedium
Known as barrenwort, bishop’s hat, miterwort and fairywings, this perennial has flowers and foliage as colourful as its common names. While most literature recommends planting epimedium in shade, DeLong found this advice failed Atlantic gardeners. Lloyd Mapplebeck from the NS Agricultural College confirmed her suspicions explaining that in the Atlantic region, which doesn’t get intense summer heat, full sun in moist (not soggy) soil works best.
