These lovely plants need moist, but well-drained soil and light shade in summer. Having struggled with them for years, DeLong now plants hers under deciduous shrubs, where they get full sun in spring and dappled shade in the summer. Mulching with evergreens when the ground freezes in December will see them through the winter.
