‘Znamya Lenina’ (S. v. ‘Znamya Lenina’) The best of the Russian cultivars were developed by Leonid Kolesnikov (1893-1974), chiefly using Lemoine varieties. Introduced some time before 1963, the cultivar name means “Banner of Lenin.” Kolesnikov also introduced ‘Krasavitsa Moskvy’ (Beauty of Moscow) in 1947; both are hardy to Zone 3.
