Ever ponder the origins of all those gorgeous plants at your local garden centre? Here's a behind-the-scenes look!

Every year as the new gardening season quickly approaches, gardeners eagerly anticipate the rows of colourful annuals that appear in garden centres across the country. For commercial greenhouse growers, those annuals represent months of hard work. Take a peek inside a production greenhouse to see how much time and effort is spent growing the beautiful annuals you plant in your garden each spring.

Commercial greenhouse growers propagate and grow plants to supply garden centres and other retail businesses with a huge variety of annual bedding plants. Through years of experience, trial and error and technological advances, greenhouse growers have perfected the art of growing plants. Some garden centres, like Birdhouse Garden Market in Goose Bay, Labrador, grow their own annuals. Buying from the growers, owner Christina Bird, orders plugs, cuttings and seeds in November for the following spring.
