A colourful bulb portfolio
Holland produces over 10 billion bulbs a year of which they export about 75 per cent. Every year, over 90 bulb growers supply bulbs to the Keukenhof. As Elisabeth explains, it’s like their business card. And the plants themselves can illustrate what they look like—when they’re in bloom, of course. Thirty gardeners carefully plant each bulb in the multitude of gardens according to a detailed plan that has mapped out their bloom time, height, colour and other important characteristics, such as whether they are disease-prone. I can’t fathom the hours of design and coordination this must take!
