Modern daylily hybrids
Hundreds upon hundreds of hybrids have been developed from the foundation species. Helpfully, Michel and Mireille have been scrupulous in identifying their plants. If a visitor discovers one or two of those nametags have faded, a quick consultation with either of them reveals not only the name, but usually a story.
As with other types of plants, categories of daylilies obey strict rules. Technically, according to the American Hemerocallis Society, petals of spider blossom formations possess “a length-to-width ratio of at least 4 to 1 (i.e., 4:1). Length is measured with the segment fully extended. Width measurement is taken as the flower grows naturally.”
