The Man Who Planted Trees
The Man Who Planted Trees depicts a solitary figure stooping to plant a sapling, while horses and woolly sheep covered in thyme graze nearby. The installation consists of 800,000 individual plants. It is based on the 1987 Oscar-winning animated film by Frédéric Back, the tale of a shepherd’s single-handed effort to re-forest a desolate valley in France in the early 20th century, turning it into a garden of Eden.
